This was one of the first sessions I got to shoot as I found my way back into photography, and I could not have asked for a better one to come back on. A family in Marietta, GA invited me to document their dad's homecoming from Air Force duty, and the whole day ran on anticipation. Kids scanning the sky for the plane. Parents checking their phones for updates. Tours of parts of the base they'd only ever seen in movies.

Candid Moments Alongside the Posed Ones

I love sessions like this because they give me both. There's the formal family portrait everyone lines up for, and then there's the moment right before or after it that nobody planned. My favorite frame from the day is one of the kids pointing at the incoming aircraft, seconds before Dad stepped off the plane. That's the kind of shot that feels like being there again, years later.
