There is a moment, and then it is gone. It cannot be arranged twice. A hand caught mid-laugh, a glance passed between two people who don't know they're being watched, the second before the vows are said, not after. What's collected here is what was actually there: weddings, proposals, birthdays, the quiet before a graduation, the loud middle of a football game, each one taken once, exactly as it happened. A photograph is also a record of who was in the room, and who was allowed to be seen there. It's evidence that it happened, and that you were exactly who you were in it.
